How much water use is too much?

I hear the autofeed kick in almost daily, at least every other day. If I turn it off I can go two or three days before needing water in the cold part of winter. What is typical for a home heating system (about 1800 sq ft)? I have an underground copper return about 15 years old that I am wondering about.
Also - how often should one clear the water in the float/autofeed system? I have been doing it every two or three days and always get dirty water for a few seconds. And how often should the lower drain be opened to clear dirty water? The sight tube also clouds up when I drain the float feeder.

Go to..
hydrolevel.com and look for the documentation for their VXT autofeeder. It has a chart for the allowable usage for various size boilers. You might also be able to get this from the boiler manufacturers web site.0 -
