temperature recorders

for a temperature recorder so I can monitor supply and return temps on a boiler system. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money. (squeak) I think it would be a useful tool though. I get so busy that it's hard to sit and watch a system waiting for a problem to show itself. Any recommendations would be appreciated. WW

Onset Computer Data Loggers
are about the most versatile devices made IMHO.
http://www.onsetcomp.com
There is a basic software package for about $25 (call it "lite") and the full package of Boxcar Pro for about $100. The basic package will do what you need, the fuller version does exporting to other files and has other features.
The loggers themselves run between $59 and $125 depending on what you are asking them to do. I would use a 2-channel one with internal and external (cable sensor) capability. These are in the Hobo H8 series and the one I recommend is the H08-002-02 which runs $65.
You can get away with a working system for $150-$200 or less including software, remote sensors...
Check them out. And ask Mark Eatherton what he thinks

Thanks Brad
I will investigate. Price is certainly reasonable. WW

You sound like
a kindred spirit. I do like to measure things. I checked the range of the H8 family and they only went up to 158 F I will keep looking as I need up to 180 or 190 for boiler temps. WW

Onset has higher temperatures
with their J, K and T type thermocouple loggers for $95.
The Type J will measure 32F to 482F, Wayne-

indoor outdoor thermometer
I have three indoor outdoor electronic thermometers hooked up to my system.. simply took the outdoor probe and taped it to my supply and return. It records high and low temps.. very simple and right at ten dollars a piece./
I know it is not perfectly accurate. it gives me a general ballpark idea.0
