As far as I can see the GB is a Korean boiler made in S. Korea originally built by Kyung Dong boiler co. for Nefit in the Netherlands which is who Buderus bought.

Here are the gas condensing, modulating boilers that I know of

    Viessman Vitodens: Germany,
    Buderus GB: Netherlands,
    Triangle Tube Prestige: Belgium,,
HTP Munchkin: assembled in US, Heat Exchanger made in France,
NTI Trinity: assembled in Canada, Heat Exchanger made in France,
Weil Mclain Ultra: Made in Europe, not sure what country

Any one know of any others? Or any of the above information incorrect?

    Monitor MZ

Made by Geminox in France. Well, the Bretton region I understand, where they still appreciate us and decorate the graves of American dead on their soil.

I had thought Buderus was German.

Baxi- Thought it was England but could be anywhere.

On ending a sentence with a prepostion....

A young man from the South Bronx was awarded a full scholarship to Princeton. His first day on campus, he asked an upper-classman, "Excuse me, can you tell me where the library is at?"

The upper-classman sniffed, "At Princeton, we do NOT end our sentences with a prepostition!"

Whereupon the question was rephrased: "Excuse me, can you tell me where the library is at, a-hole?"

Sorry, had to rid myself of that one :)

    Thats a new one

Doubt it. even if it were so...ROK is a staunch ally...better than buying in France or worse yet China as far as I'm concerned. Mad Dog

    Interesting

Interesting that the Vitodens is the only one that looks to be made "in house".

    Viessmann controls

most if not all aspects of their production. They must think that they are Swiss for crying out loud :)

Their metallurgy (316 T for titanium stainless steel? I think they own the production out of South Africa last I heard.)

Aside from Weishaupt burners, I am not sure what else they out-source. I am sure someone knows. But how better to control quality.

    GB142

The GB142 is assembled at Nefit in Holland. Some components are outsourced (very few). I don't know what parts or where there from. Buderus boilers are manufactured in Germany. Some parts like Honeywell components are outsourced.

    I can attest to that

Having watched them pour the cast iron in Germany. Can't say where all the parts for the GB come from. Maybe the Aluminum block is from Korea ??

    Cast iron sections

Scott, did you get a chance to walk by a stack of sections recently removed from the sand molds? As you appoach you start to feel the heat, then as you get close - wow they are HOT. Here in the U.S. there would be caution tape, fenced in areas, big warning signs, etc... Over there there is no caution tape, fencing etc..., it's feel the heat - don't be stupid, stay away.Great pictures of the Lollar plant.

    My WM Ultra 80LP..

.. has a Honeywell control board made in Hungary and the rest of it looks like Made in Belgiam. If every part had a label, it would look like a major international effort. At least it was installed in the USA :-)

    I believe

they are called RBI, and they are manned here in Vancouver. Their literature states that they modulate their boilers on the same principle as the gas pedal in your car. Have not installed any yet, but have heard good things about them.

I thought I had more but as I remember, taking pictures in the plant is Verbotten !

Oh Yea, I felt the heat. We got to watch the pouring and see the transfer of molten casr iron to the pouring station. The empty pot was enough to give you a sun burn.

    I know I have pictures ??

US Condensing boilers (well one anyway..)

Dunkirks (Quantum boilers) are still built inthe USA (Dunkirk NY) and the castings in Wisconsin I believe. although some controls might be offshore, and the new mod is also US.

    I saw molten metal splash

on the forklift driver when I visited the Buderus factory years ago! He was dumping something into the pot.

He did jump a bit and raise up out of his seat. Minutes earlier we had been standing next to that rig.

Maybe he was just showing off for those wide eyed Americans :)

  • German OSHA....

is a non existent entity. We too found our selves in places that would NEVER be allowed here in the US. Guess they keep their governments nose out of their business.

It is a different system over there...

I have an uncle who was in the USAF stationed near Stuttgart. He was the principal of the USAF high school for the children of service personnel.

He gets a call from the local constabulary.

"Do you have under your charge a student named _____?"

"Yes, I do, he is Col. ________'s son. Is there a problem?"

"He is in the local hospital, we thought you should know".

"What happened? Was there an accident?"

"No accident. He was drunk and disorderly. While being questioned, he made the serious mistake of hitting a German police officer. You should come get him."

    NEVER EVER

hit a German police officer!(Never hit any police officer of course)

I worked with a guy that was stationed in Germany while he was in the Army. He got drunk and took a swipe at a German police officer. It was a BIG mistake. He believes to this day that the sidewalks in Germany are MUCH harder than here in the USA.

I would imagine that only a good old fashioned Singapore caning would be worse.
