plastic slip sheet under floating floor

Responses please, do any of you see a problem with plastic 6ml sheet over radiant in Gyp with double plywood floating floor and 1/2" engineered floor over that. Just wondering if any ill affect on performance. Thanks in advance, Tim. ps. most of my General's don't put the plastic sheet between Gyp and floating floor.

    what your problem is....

is, you are too considerate. *~/:)

the home buyer would just as soon have you with the hammer than his general.

our relative humidity is real low around here, you see how that might come into play?

did the floor dry properly? there are tools to determine that easy enough.

if you ask the gypcrete installer he can tell you what he has seen and what he recommends...same goes for carpet lino tile marble....i have seen it done. do i think it is a good idea ? nope. vapor barriers are money well spent.

    Might suggest you...

...go to the manufacturer of the flooring to ask if it is proper to use poly under their floor. Two concerns come to my mind. First is this is a vapor barrier... Do you really want one there? Second is, what happens if it overheats? Does the house forever more smell like hot plastic? Ewww!

    Weezbo, reply

The floor was totally dry, had been heated for 5 months. They checked moisture, ok.

    Why??

Why the 2 sheets of ply under the "pre-engineered" flooring??

This is called the "Bollinger Method" and is used with conventional hardwoods, not pre-eng. flooring, which is usually rated for direct application to the Gyp. To add additional layers increases required water temps as the R values increase.

they felt they wanted the extra stability

Paul, my main question was the slip sheet layer of plastic. Just trying to figure any issues. Thanks for the reply, Tim.
