Low York and 4 zones

I should have explained the arrangement a little better . Although this is a 4 zoner , only one circ is at the boiler . Since there's 0 chance of getting 4 circs under the cover , they piped 2 of them in the attic and 1 in a closet under the stairs . But there is a supply and return pipe for each zone . And with this kind of setup , we can only control one circ through the low limit , and that makes hot water production in the winter a little dicey . But we haven't had complaints yet with this brand boiler ( I have on in my home too ) . Thanks alot Ted .

  • This sits under a cover

in a Levitt home in the kitchen . To the right is the washing machine . Very tight spot to fit so much piping . Someone piped in 2 bypasses and we're still not sure why , because all 4 zones are baseboard .
  • It was just me and Kenny

The piping took up the whole day . Trying to get it all straight and level and leave a little access to the top was tough . It'll take a little maneuvering , but it can be done .

It would've been a nice looking job , but you can see the obvious pitch up of the header piping . We tracked it down to a 1 inch nipple that must've been threaded crooked at the factory . Now that pi.... me off beyond belief . I noticed it at the end of the job . Well , at least it does get covered . Thats Kenny trying to will the header straight with his telekenetic powers ........

    You guys

You guy's amaze me everytime!! I still can't imagion trying to stuff a boiler into some of the spot's you do. Then again some of the junk you remove shock's me to. Now out of curiosity, why the aquastat on the supply piping? Am I missing something? Tell Kenny to "use the force" (star wars) next time. When the black iron nipples are cut a little off there is no turning back, and of course you never see it till your done..:)

    Piping

    Ron Jr, nice and neat.

I cant figure out the piping arrangment. Are there other circs or zone valves? I'm just not getting it. It looks like the circ is pumping into the boiler after the supplies?

  • The control on the supply

is the Taco LWCO . We used to install that where the expansion tank is on this one but this works out better . I'll tell Kenny to try the Jedi credo next time , I think the schwartz wasn't with us today . To add insult to injury , the lady of the home wasn't too pleased with the noise level . I'll bet we'll be back to throw in a Carlin . Thanks alot Lchmb , I really appreciate the compliment .

    deja vu

Ron, when I first saw the "before" pic I thought I had seen this picture before from you. Probably you replaced a setup before that looked 98% the same?

    Wow...

... as always, some of the working conditions that you and Kenny endure continue to amaze me. My hat off to you for cramming that much heating power into so little space and not making it look like the melted spaghetti lump that you removed. That the unit, the burner, the expansion tank, etc. remain servicable should register as a minor miracle.

I also like your deliberate decision to mount items like vents, shut-off valves, etc. in areas that are accessible without potentially scalding the technician. Hopefully, the smoke pipe will not have to be replaced, it looks a bit confined but it could just be the camera angle.

Once again, congratulations! Oh, and thanks for sharing!

    Guess

I guess I better wake up and look longer the next time..:) I knew it was something important!! I have a feeling going from that old burner hidden under all that crap she won't be happy with a carlin either..But good luck on that one..
  • More like 50 percent

of the same . There are thousands of homes with this boiler in the same spot , but very rarely are there 4 zones connected to it .
  • Yeah , the fluepipe

will be a little hassle but believe it or not , we put that in last . And if it can go in ....... it can come out . Once thats out , brushing the boiler down aint too bad . The sightdoor is wide enough to stick a vacuum in without opening the door .

Like you noticed , we always try to keep the servicable parts easy to get to . I purposely pipe the oil filter higher than the burner so changing the nozzle isn't a **** . The service dept has it bad enough working on these original systems . Thanks alot Constantin . Hey where you been ? I haven't seen many posts from you here lately . Getting busy ?
  • Nope

Like I said to Ted , only one circ was at the boiler . We could , in theory , zone valve all of them . But that would entail removing the other 3 circs and running 3 thermostat wires back to the boiler . Extremely tough to do in these homes .

    2 LBS in a 1 lb. bag!

The only way to describe this one. How you can do this day in and out and maintain your sanity is beyond me.

Nice work as usual Ron. Did that one have the cover over the top or the closet built around it? Chris
