Most wet rotor pumps use PSC (permanent split capacitor) motors which consume less electricity then the split phase motors that were used in a lot of three piece oil lubricted pumps, some manufacturers such as Bell & Gosset switched to PSC motors years ago on thier smaller pumps 1/12 & 1/6 hp hence amperage draw went down as well as starting torque, however in a pinch I have found an air conditioning hard start kit (suppco spp5) across the run capacitor gives them additional starting torque to get them going in a pinch.

In general terms
A direct-drive device uses less energy to do the same output (work) as an indirectly coupled (or in the case of a fan) a belt-driven device.
There are exceptions of course (impeller size and type, ratio of diameter to casing volute, etc.) but the best proof is to compare the wattage or HP of two pumps of identical duty (flow at a given head). The lowest energy wins.0 -
thanks guys i apreciate all the info0
