The better solution? Booster tank or Superstor...
Still Learning
Member Posts: 1
...First off, as my name indicates, I've only been in the field for 3 years and still have much to learn. This site is great. My question is about tankless options. My neighbor has a single zone home off a 3 section Weil Mclain with HW from a tankless. All domestic water is fine except for the shower. They have changed the mix valvle in the shower already and are now considering their options with the coil itself. Budget-wise I assume the booster tank would be best but quality wise how does it rate against eliminating the coil and adding a 40 gal superstor instead? Thanks for any input.

booster or indirect
With the booster installed, the boiler will still have to remain at high temp to answer a demand for hot water. Installing an indirect makes the boiler into a demand start, is way more efficient and will make a lot more hot water. The Weil Plus tanks are amoungst the best in the business and make tons of hot water. we have over 200 out in the field and no major problems whatsoever.

We installed a few boilers and aquaboosters and prioritized the bronze circ on the tank like you would do for an indirect . The boiler stays at a minimum all day till a call for heat or hot water , then kicks it up to 180 degrees . Not as fast a recovery time as an indirect though , but the aquabooster tanks are lasting longer . Long Island water is real hard on indirect tanks for some reason , so we push the coil-aquabooster combo for higher demand homes .0 -
Be careful
Depending on the age of the boiler, you may not want to convert it to a cold start, sometimes keeping the old hi/low aquastat will prolong the life of the boiler.Convert them over to a indirect water heater, sized to their useage, they may not even notice any difference in their fuel consumption, but they will in their hot water production. They will be very happy with the results, just make sure it "is" a tankless problem. Good Luck.0
