One Pipe Steam Humidifier

but I remember the house I grew up in (built 1892-3). There were these long copper pans that looked like slippers (we called them Giant's Slippers) that slid between the tubes of the radiators, lengthwise. They protruded out the end a few inches if I recall and you filled them with water from a watering can. Well, that part is up to you. Thankfully, they were higher up on the radiator than the cat could pee.

Wonder if you could get a coppersmith to make one up for you?

    One Pipe Steam Humidifier

Back in the days of old (1939, extactly), Maid-O'-Mist marketed a one pipe steam air vent which doubled as a humidifier. It was a 4-1/2" round 12-1/2" tall thing that screwed into the radiator. I presume you filled it with fresh water rather than letting the condesate mung whift into the room.

Does anyone know anything about this thing or have any ideas how it may have worked? Maid-O'-Mist says they don't recall.

I found it listed and illustrated in a 1930 Guide.

Also, anyone ever hear of a MAVES air vent? ... http://mavessteamvent.com/

Cant get a hold of these folks. It's American made and I'd like to try them out.

Giving this a bump. Want to see if Steamhead or the other steam guys knows about this stuff, esp. the MAVES vent. Looks like a early sort of TRV.

    Thanks, Bob.

I found a bunch of the humidifiers and they should be coming in the mail. I'll post a description of how they work and a picture when they arrive.

Otherwise, I'm still trying to contact the manufacturer/distrivutor of the MAVES steam vents with no success. Just an answering machine and unreturned e-mails. Anyone ever hear of them? WOuld love to try another American-made valve, so long as AMerica isn't Mexico!
