Selling Pumping Away (repiping the old boiler)

Pumping away increases circulation this should mean that you run the circulator less thereby saving electricity and lengthing the time between circulator changes. This should also increase heating capacity and comfort. Combined with Spirovent or other method of removing air you reduce the amount of oxygen in the system. Air/oxygen is not our friend. It can block circulation, air does not conduct heat (in a hydronic system), without oxygen you do not have corrosion. Bubbles make noise. I have had more than one customer complain that they can't tell when their system is on now that I removed the air. None has as yet taken me up on my offer to replace it. Basically, pumping away provides a quieter, more efficient, and more reliable system. In most residential systems it will take years to amortise this expense. You may have a bit of a problem selling the change over to a customer unless there is a specific problem or if you are into the plumbing anayway.

  • Boiler upkeep and Pumping Away

    To Anyone:
Since I've realized the importance of pumping away, all of my boiler service calls present either a problem, an opportunity, or both--I don't know. Here's the issue: , on a residantial package boiler, in terms of component longevity (water side parts lasting longer; vents, fill valves, exp tanks, valves and the like), how much longer will water side parts last versus on pumping away boilers versus pump on the return side boilers.
