Waste oil boilers

I'll put togeather some data for us to compare. I dont have anything handy at the moment, but I dont want you to think I'm dodging the question. I'll look up some Clean burn spec.s and compare them to the different models of the Black Gold units so that we're comparing apples to apples.

Along with efficiency, I'm also concerned with service. I'll pull up some service records and see if I cant get some averages.

So long as the air filter on the compressor is kept clean, the oil filter is changed regularly, and the tank only has combustables inside, the Black Golds run great between regular maintenances.

Edit: also the information I have is primarily with furnaces. I'll have to dig around for some boiler stats.

    Waste oil burner/boilers

Has anyone on "The Wall" had any experiences with either the Reznor or INOV 8 / Buderus used/waste oil boilers? I have a commercial customer interested in placing one in a car wash for hot water and radiant heating? Thank You!

    Waste oil

Burning waste oil is illegal in many jurisdictions, even when mixed in small proportion with fuel oil. Depending on the source, it is hard to spec a burner when you are dealing with a number of unknowns: viscosity, purity and content. You may even require preheat. Except in very large boilers, expect to find plugged strainers and orifices, and carbon buildup.

  • I deal with Black Gold waste oil products. We mainly install furnaces, but we have done a couple boilers.

The only two waste oil heating companies I have worked with is Clean Burn, and Black Gold. The Black Gold products preform leaps and bounds above Clean Burn.

All the waste oil equipemtn I work on is in MA. And it tends to be a town to town thing the way the fire inspectors accept it. Even though it is UL listed they sometimes will work hard to find something they dont like. Usually the issues are with the placement of the tanks, containment, etc,..

If your interested I can give you the name of a dealer in my area that has 10+ years experience working with Black Gold products for his opinion.

    I've installed Clean Burn

boilers. Seven of them in the past two years. I've been happy with the performance and product support.

As I understand it they may be the only brand that is UL listed, and also ASME as a complete package. I'm not sure the Reznor has a UL listing on the boiler with burner assembly? I believe it is a Buderus block with a Wayne gun and a Reznor name on the package??

Norm I'd be interested in the performance difference between the two brands. My measurements show the Clean Burns to run around the 80% efficiency they claim. Do you have data to show other brands run higher efficiencies than this in the same BTU output?
