Horsing around on the job....

A horse barn with radiantly heated floors for all the human areas.

The building shown that is still in bones is the next project. Its a maintenance/caretakers residence. The residence gets wall mounted panel rads. The owner said he didn't want his help to be as comfortable as he is...

Enjoy!

    True log construction?

Or is it log siding? If it's log, what did you use for r-value and infiltration, knowing what happens to log homes over time?
  • Real log..

    Square cut, average thickness ~ 8, hence R 8.

Based infiltration at 1 ACPH and warned them about keeping barn doors open. Guess I could put proximity switches in series with the Tsta wire... That would keep the doors shut.

Actually, the owners will probably be extremely happy to have ANY comfort in a horse barn. We put heat in the feed room (Whats the real R value for hay?), bunk room, bathroom, (interior), tack room, situation room ?, and office. Oh yeah, horse wash. Horse wash is in the very middle of the barn. We put tube down at 8" OC, hooked it to a room sensing thermostat, paralleled to a slab sensor powered thru a 12 hour twist timer. There's also an electric radiant heater rated for wet niche operation. Don't think he'll need it though. Gonna see if I can convince the owner to move that quartz radiant heater to the observers area in the 60,000 square foot riding arean...(no heat by me in that bldg).
