And not so goodie, anymore.

Had a fella call wanting space heaters installed strategically throughout his Dad's house. I asked why, what's there now ? A coal conversion steam that doesn't work, he says.

Well I get there, and this thing's firing about two minutes on and four minutes off and never making steam at all. I start checking it over and about choked !

The pressuretrol is disconnected and some BS 24v timer is running the burner ! NO LWCO ! Epoxied sight glass :) A Clorox bottle shoved tightly onto a 3/4 iron nipple for a filler funnel ! AND, NO Hartford loop, just a bronze swing check in the wet return about a foot from the boiler !

So I tell him all the stuff that's in need and before I can estimate it he asks if $X is enough. X is enough for a new boiler :), but I kinda want to make the old girl sing so I tell him to relax, we can fix it up if that's what he wants. He thinks a leak test is a good idea so we pour about five glass, gallon jugs in, that were there for the purpose :) BUMMER, it leaks.

Get out the big threaders, we got "man's work" to do :)

That's how it sadly ends. Seems dignified at least, you didn't have to pound a stake through its heart.

Any idea what "Hercules #3" main vents are equal to ?
