New oil burner safety feature

Now that we have primary controls that lock out in as little as 5 seconds it seems like the relay you mention would add more cost, reduce reliability and offer little in the way of benefit.

A proposed new oil burner safety feature . .

Last week I wrote about an igniter failure on my oil burner. I would like to ask you professionals if there is a good reason NOT to use a "current relay" or equivalent that would lock out the burner motor (or oil solenoid valve)should there be no primary current for the igniter or ignition transformer? What good could possible come from spraying oil into the combustion chamber when there is, and cannot be, a source of ignition?
  • I can see where that might help

on larger burners- 5 seconds is a lot of oil on these.

    Properly maintained

My experiance has shown a clean and serviced unit with existing controls is all thats necessary.

Resets should only be pushed once as we all know homeowners only push once RIGHT??

All of the Riellos I've seen prove flame only.

    Riello

All Riellos prove spark before oil valve can open.
