Recommendations for high recoveryhot water heating

A fiend has asked for hot water help. The house has gas forced air heat. The standard 50 gas gas hot water heater has too little recovery for his large family / peak demand periods. Would a small high efficency boiler, with indirect storage be a alaternate? An additional problem is the cramped utility room with barely the space for the existing tank size. What are suggested alternatives?

showers?
Hello: If the peak demand is from showering, you might want to look up the GFX shower heat exchanger. It can capture 60% of the heat going down the drain. Possibly the GFX could prevent the need for added heating capacity and save some energy $ in the long term.

Recover hot water?
The construction of this condo would not suit the proposed heat recovery technique.0 -
Check for Rebates
You may want to look into a small munchkin on top of an indirect. You don't use up space and you now have a high efficient system which may qualify for rebates (check with your gas company on boiler and indirect). Another good option on this type of system (or any type) is a 3-way mixing valve. You now can set the tank at 140 degrees and use return water to temper down.0 -
This is a perfect ap for Rinnai Continuum
