Cost of Dropped Header
Steamhead (in transit)

Assuming two risers, you just need a couple of street 90s (or regular 90s and nipples) to make the turn down into the header. In fact, this method saves enough installation time that it may actually be cheaper to do it this way.
If the boiler has only one riser to the header, you won't save any time by using a drop header. But it would still be useful to allow a taller riser if headroom is a problem.

Trying to figure ...
In gereral terms, is the cost of a dropped header on a new steam boiler significantly greater than a conventional header?0 -
Thanks Steamhead
What if clearence is not an issue? Is a dropped header still a better way to make dry steam on a new system? Are there any good pics of dropped headers on Dan's site?
Thanks, as always.0 -
I think it is
taller risers help make drier steam too. Go here for some pics:
