im getting my steam boiler replaced next week. i have a leak above water level. i tested it by filling up the boiler past the glass gauge and water came out of the boiler. i been reading that fresh water corrodes metal. i get heat on all my radiators also but im still replacing.

    Cracked Peerless Boiler?

I am loosing all of the water in my 1994 Peerless Boiler Series 61 every day. I don’t see any visual leaking signs from the boiler itself or any of the pipes or the radiators. My conclusion is that the unit has developed a crack.
    1. Can it be repair (by placing a metal clamp over the crack area, for example)?
    2. Is it possible to purchase and replace only the leaky cast iron section?
    3. What is your estimate to replace the entire unit (I already have the base, the plumbing, the gas line, vent line and electricity)?
    4. Should I just get up and move with the family, the dogs, the cats and one donkey (don’t ask) to a warmer place (currently reside in northern NJ)?

Leave the boiler off for a bit. When you refire it, look outside at the chimney. If you see white smoke, that's steam forming from the water leak and is a sure sign of water loss into the combustion side of the system.

Is this a steam system? Do you have underground piping that could be leaking?

The system works on steam. I don’t have any underground pipes. I checked all the exposed pipes for leaks and even checked through existing cavities for leaks in the walls. The steam reaches all the radiators even the farther from the unit.

Have you filled the boiler up to the top to see if any of the sections are leaking?
