Cracked boiler

One of the steam heating units in my Boston duplex has developed a cracked boiler. This heater is ancient--as old as the building itself--dated approx 1915-1920. I believe it is an ARCO 2000 43M (?) model.

Can a cracked boiler be repaired? Or is the only option to replace the entire system?

Also, is there a chance that because of its antiquity, that this monster has value to a collector? or any value other than scrap?

Some of you may be howling with laughter at the stupid notion that this might have value or be fixable, but, in all seriousness, could the unit be fixable or worth something?

I live in CA where AC is important but some years we don't even have to turn on our heater. In other words, I'm not too up to speed on steam heating systems.

Also, if anyone knows someone in the Boston area who could possibly repair a cracked boiler, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I can tell you are from L A I bet (hehehe)

we here in Boston really know that you can't " fix " a 80+ year old leaking cast iron boiler! Sorry to tell you but, it has served you well and now it's time to rest. As far as value maybe you could find someone on the west coast that would love it, because around here we call them junk.

    Cracked boiler

Where is the crack? Also, probably the only thing that may be worth saving on an old boiler is one of the clean-out doors etc. that may have the boiler manufacturer's name on it. Other than that it is due to be recycled......

I always pat old boilers and stare at them for a while and try to imagine back to the time when it was first being installed, just reflect a moment before I start to dismantle the beast...... and curse every section as I lug it up the ever higher rickety stairway out of the basement and into my van for it's last ride.... to the graveyard.

    Now the cliche

"They don't make em like they used to"

I regret to tell you that the new one will not last 90years - or even 80. Feel very lucky yours lasted this long.
