buderus GA244 question

Buderus states in the I/O manual for the GA244/53 boiler that the air intake be piped in galvanived pipe. If it's fresh air from outside, why couldn't PVC be used?

Galvanized pipe
We recommend galvinized pipe to help temper the incoming air. PVC pipe has an insulating value and cold air could be an issue. Also when the GA244 was submitted for testing, it was with galvinized pipe on the fresh air intake. Thanks,0
