working with my dad every day, I would be the helper. Handing him wrenches, flux, the torch, etc. As I was standing there absorbing what he was doing, I would ALWAYS find the hottest pipe in the boiler/mechanical room to grab with my hand. I would cry, meanwhile he would laugh. Must have taken me a hundred times before I stopped doing it.
Nowhere near as painful as that steam boiler water must have been, though. :)
My Dad has since passed, however, I still hear him laughing at me occassionally. Miss ya Dad.

Hey Ed
Get yourself a Teel pump and pump the skim water out of the bucket.
I gave up on carrying buckets of scaulding water.
Best wishes!

Must be the week for burns!
Hope your feeling better Ed! It seems that no matter how careful we are, mishaps find us at times. Last week while checking my own boiler of all things, non-paying customer! I didn't have on the usual "fitters" cap that I wear at work everyday, so my shiny crown was exposed. I bent forward to check something and for a second I thought I heard bacon sizzling. Only a split second at that and then wow did I scream out. I leaned into the stainless steel vent pipe that was 300F. My shiny crown was blistered about the size of a silver dollar, and there wasn't that nice bacon aroma with it either! What bugged me most is that the vent pipe has a permanent mark on it! Oh well!0 -

Drop some on your lip!
I was soldering overhead in a tunnel under an old school.
I dropped the solder blob right on my lip. (That's what I get for using more than I need) Immediately you try to spit the hot stuff off of your lip and burn the bottom of your tongue. The worst part is you know the blister on your lip will get worse before it gets better. Kevin0 -
ooouuuchh
That story hurts Kevin.
The worst burn story I heard was from a old employee.
Seems he lived in a house years ago with no heat. They used a Kerosene round heater to heat the house. As kids they would come out of the bath and stand around the heater with the towels open to get warm. One day he bent down a little to close to the heater and one part of his body hung down a little closer than the rest!!!!!!!
Now Thats a Blister.. oooooooooo

the worst non trade related burn I saw
was when I was a student working at a restaurant. New kids watch popped off his wrist and fell into the deep fat fryer, he didn't think and reached in to get it.
He screamed and pulled back, and I slammed his hand into flour to absorb the grease, severe damage..
Still haunts me at times when I see a fryer I have to work on..
