fuel oil flow meter

I second the hour meter idea - much cheaper and pretty darn accurate, especially if you check it with the tank gauge. I've been doing htis for 5 years and the data is pretty consistent (.26 gal/degree day for me, big uninsulated victorian house with an old coal boiler converted to oil). It also matches up pretty well with my heat loss calcs for the house.

fuel oil flow meter
Anyone out there know of a cost effective, inline flow meter for a residential oil burner. I'm trying to watch my actual daily consumption in comparison to degree days.
thanks.0 -
they are 4-600$, made for commercial use, obviously
what do you consider cost effective..???0 -
Mark, are they $150.00 each and do I have to buy 4.
what brand/model, $150.00 seems reasonable.0 -

Useage meter
I have a cheaper way - I have been using a clock device in parallel with the burner motor, that logs running hours in 1/10's. I know my nozzle size and the useage matches the tanks refills.0 -
.
wire an hour meter to the oil valve --very accurate i have done this in a few multi-family dwellings where they split the heating costs--an hour meter on each pump
