Does radiant elecric heating, such as ZMESH, make sense for a 4600 sf house in the Washington DC area? We are building the house now and given the cost of gas and oil we are considering this option. We might also tie in a supplemental solar panel. thx

My theory
would be to install a hydronic system with pex tube. Then you could use an electric boiler, solar, gas, oil, lp, coal, pellets, camp fire, whatever as a fuel source. Or any combo of these. Possibly solar with an electric boiler back up?
Some customers have us install LP and electric boilers at the same time. They chose which to operate based on the current price of the fuel source.
With electric cable or mats you are tied into a one source system.
