this was a really nice job
finally a big clean boiler room, well lit, and really nice customers..thank you Tony and Annie Mastroianni for the privilage of replacing your boiler..it was a really enjoyable job..its a burnham series 5 boiler..installed on a mouat waterseal vapor system..the house is bigger than most homes and we heat the house with just under one ounce of pressure at the boiler..yup, you read that right..one ounce..the vaporstat is mounted at the end of the main..the two-stage gas valve is triggered from an aquastat on the farthest A-dimension, and drops out the piping pickup factor once the pipes are full of steam..we insulated the steam pipes but my only requirement was that the insulation look like it was in the navy..i wanted one long river of white, not sporadic pieces or plastic elbows that sometimes melt and don't fit right..enjoy the pictures, we sure enjoyed the job..Burnham series 5 is a very fine boiler.

Outstanding!
Super nice job professonal all the way love the drop header ,false water line and the vaporstat , aquastat at the end of the main you guys make steam work truely a art form my hats off .The home owner must be quite happy as with the staged firing to lower her bills .Again beautiful job carried through with true craftmanship and true professonalism to the point of insulating the near boiler piping outstanding .You pulled a few old timer tricks out of the bag which most wouldn,t understand or attempt to do to bring this system up to par and better .Excellent peace clammyR.A. Beautiful Work...
... It is wonderfult o see how much care you guys took to put that system together. I like the header/eqaulizer/FWL assembly a lot and the insulation job warms my heart! With that low of a system pressure, they should enjoy very good response times and economical operation... lucky they are to have you two installing the system!
I wish the steamer in my current rental apartment had been installed with the same care. I'm sure it would have saved us a lot of $$$.
It's great that the homeowners got as much out of the install as we do... what insulation package did you use?0 -
What great attention to detail!
Very nice work.0 -
Nice Job!
Good job guys - Can I be your apprentice, thats the kind of job that makes you feel good inside and thats just what I need. I love my job that I do with backflow prevention, but installing a job like that has got to be more gratifying.
Oh by the way how did you protect the make-up water supply to the boiler?
Again, Good job guys.
Got to go, they want me to carve the turkey.
Regards, Joe0 -
Beautiful work...
guys! That's one big drop header. I especially like the flanged connections at the boiler and in between take-offs. that's got to make installation easy.
Keep up the great work!!

insulation.
What type of insulation is that it doesn't look like firberglass0 -
the insulation
is 1'' fiberglass on the pipe, the fittings are hand formed the old school way with high temperature insulating cement, then childers insulating mastic applied, the whole kit and kaboodle wrapped in cheesecloth,(you can use a fiberglass mesh also) at least two more coats of mastic..

yup clammy,
the old timers know all the ''tricks''..guess tricks is really the wrong word..the old timers were smarter than that which they worked on..i've been privileged to get to hang out with Joe Szakacs who is 82 or 83 now and still loves to show his stuff..funny thing with the old timers, in that they volunteer nothing..but if you ask, and i do, they will gladly tell you what they know..

three cheers for cheesecloth
used it along with childers over 15 years ago when there was the concern for city-wide asbestos inpections/remediation other than a little dusty it looks like new. messy, but easy to work with.
