I should mention <BR>
> that I am on a well
This is the minor Glitch in your system quite likely...may i ask you to take a look at the water line from the well to the boiler? here is what you may have, a Backflow preventer(anti backflow suppression valve) and an auto fill. see if you can see two shiney brass things with those words on them ..And any other valves immediately ahead and after those items on the line... I am with you at this momment and i really havent anywhere i'd rather be :)
Look at the boiler gage while you are there ,it has a temp reading 160 180 200 ...like that and a pressure reading 0 10 20 30 like that...this is important information at the momment also...

Air in lines and loud noises in pipes
I hope someone can help me!!!!I have a 24 yr old Hydrotherm boiler with 4 zones. Last year the pipes began banging very loudly and I could hear a lot of air running through the lines.(I ignored it, as summer was coming!!!!) About a month ago my boiler quit completely. I telephoned a contractor who said I had a lot of air in the lines. He purged the system and got it going again. He also put some new auto bleeders in as some were corroded. After he left, the system started making a lot of noise again. He said to call him again if there is a problem. Could you please tell me how long it should take for him to get the air out of the system? I should mention that I am on a well(I don't know if this makes a difference or not;I've had conflicting opinions).
Could the house settling have caused this? Any advice you can give me is very much appreciated as I would like to be a little more informed when I call him back; I would also like to help him resolve the problem.
Thank you very much, Louise0 -
HI!
I've found the backflow valve;it is a 9D;there is also a watts regulator 1156F;I can't seem to find the auto fill. I don't have any problem with my water having air in the lines. The boiler gauge reads 180 and the pressure reading is just under 20. Hope this helps!!!0 -
If the boiler is not piped correctly
those automatic bleeders can actually suck air into the system under the right circumstances. This is because, if the circulator is on the return line to the boiler, it may partially depressurize the system when it comes on (ask me how I know this is true!).
Fortunately there's a cure. Try the Find a Professional page of this site to locate someone who can solve your problem.

air in lines and noisy pipes
Hi Steamhead!
I just went back to my original post and noticed that you had replied. My problem is still not resolved. The supposed professional that I called came back and flushed the system ,added a couple more auto air vents, replaced the cirulating pump and a l 1/4 ball valve. The system is still gurgling and there is some banging. He seemed to be at wits end and brought a plumber friend with him the last time to solve the problem. The plumber friend said that the boiler heat exchanger is scaled(from my well water) and that is what is causing the percolating and banging and that I need a new boiler. (Mine is 25 years old and is a cast iron hyro therm). I've been trying to find out if this is causing my problem but no one seems to think that this would be causing it. My question to you as a professional(I can't seem to find one around here!!!!!! The closest one from"Find a Professional" is quite some distance away) is could the scaling on my boiler be causing this problem? My water analysis from a year ago shows a pH of 7.7 and a hardness of 1 grain/gallon(slightly hard).
Thank you for taking the time to read this long e-mail. Any info you can give me is greatly appreciated.

heating install gone wrong
I had a new house built last year with raidiant heat.My big mistake was letting my general contractor look after the job .The so called professional radiant installers put in a system that i dont think they even understood. The system is a closed primary-secondary piped.I have a slant finn victory gas fired boiler,3 taco circ pumps,2 3way mixing valves and 11 zones. 5 zones down stairs pex pipe in slab 6 zones upstairs staple up underfloor joists. When they first fired the system up nothing seemed to work. After much debate and research i did on your site i was able to prove that it was improperly installed .They came back and replumbed the boiler room. Now the primary loop has the expansion tank then the circ pump then 4 inches of pipe then 90 and ballvalve then first T for seconday loop 3 inches further down return T then 4 inches to next supply T and 3 inches to return T then 2 inches and a 90 then back to boiler. The first seondary loop feeds a 3way manual temp mixing valve then a circ pump then zone control valves. The other secondary loop has a esb spring loaded 3way mixing valve then the circ pump and onto the control valves. My questions are how important is the spacing of the secondary loop Ts,also there are no check valves in the system, its also noisy you can hear water running could this be air? any help would be great.I have a pile of money tied up in this and i just want to get it working properly my heating bill is 280 a month i live in vancouver canada we dont even get snow help!!!!0
