temp question

i have the same question posted on the zones question but this is a related question.I do have a reset control set to low 130 high 180 & outside temp to 10 my question is with a nightime setback of 8 digress would it be better to not have that large of a setback or should i set the high temp. to 190 for faster recovery i have a castiron boiler it seems as the weather gets colder the time it takes for recovery is longer. my temp on the supply side is 156 & the return around 149 & the bypass at 154.the boilers reaches the 180 max then shuts down the avg. boiler run is 5 min. perhaps to lower the bolier min & higher the boiler max would make the boiler run longer and hotter also with the reset control should you change the high-low as temp drops? also if uou run one zone say one half hour before the other zone would you be at risk of thermal shock?what i tried doing is to have one zone start for the nightine setback of 62 then step it up to 65 one hour later then to 69 one hour later then 70 after 5:00 then to 62 at 11:00 does this seem to be the proper way of recovery? thnaks Rob

    temp question

I have a 4006A aquastat on my boiler (hot water base.) and have the high limit set at 185. The temp gauge shows it going off at about 185 so the two peices of equipment seem accurate with each other. Now - the boiler does not re-start until around 145 (40 degree spread). What is the desired re-start temp? There is no differential setting on my aquastat. I am wondering if a new aquastat that gives me some control on the low side would be beneficial. I feel like the house does not warm fast enough (after turning back up each morning)and that this could be a factor along with a need for a bit more footage of baseboard fin.
    Thoughts?

    I believe

the normal diff should be arould 20* or so. Some aquistats do not hav an adjustable diff as you described, but some do. Ideally you should see about a 20 Delt. T on the return side of the system. That is of course if it designed that way. Room to room heat loss is the only way to determine if you need more base. You may try to overcome this problem by raising your supply temp to give you an untimatly higher average temp. This seems like a problem that needs to be redesigned only to see what you have and how you would like it to perform ultinmatly. Let me know how you make out. Mike T...

So, you are saying that the boiler should restart at 165 (with a high limit setting of 185) for best performance??

    A typical L4006A

does have an adjustable differential of 5-30° differential.
There should be a white wheel to spin in the diff. setting.

    20 Delta T

If you are getting the 20 Del T this is the optimal performance. Let's say you have 100' of 3/4" your Delt will be mich lower and very uncomfortable. By raising your temp you are trying to ultimatly Provide yourself with more heat when in fact the loop should br redesigned for that 20* drop that we talk about. It's really how the system is designed and even more so if it is correctly designed that will give you the best performance and bang for your buck...I guess that's the best I can explain it. Hope it helps.....

Your right, I found the diff. dial and moved it to 20*. I will try that for awhile and see if it helps. I still do not know what a disired re-start temp is (generally speaking)In other words what is the min. temp you want flowing through to effectively heat??? Thanks
