Steam boiler replacement

Hello, I am the owner of a small plumbing & hydronic heating company. I have a few questions for the experts.
1) I will mostlkely be replacing an oil fired steam boiler next week(one-pipe, parallel flow/up-feed, with a wet return). If the steam riser from the boiler is 2 1/2", should I increase to 3" for the header itself? Also, what would a drop header do for me?

2) I have never used a combustion analyser, but I beleive it would be a wise investment. Can anyone recommend brands/models for me? Will I need any special training to use one properly?

Thank you for your time, I read and learn whatever and whenever I can to improve myself and my business, Dan's books and this forum have been awsome.

    steam boiler

Take a lot at the manual fo the boiler you are going to install and pipe as they say. They have done this thousands of times and know what they're doing. Downsizing anything from factory specs will adversely effect the efficiency of the system.
There are lots of good analysers out there. Bachrack, Testo and UEI make good units. Get your supplier to put you in touch with the local rep and he should be able to walk you through the operations.
