They are done to the specs of the oil company. These are not anything I specified, by any stretch.
Some people don't have "all the money" to do the job "plus code", and are done to a price point. Fittings cost money. Time costs money. ALL of my jobs are to spec, and have no problems.
I would NEVER leave a job with an "issue". Ask ANY of the customers, and you will find that I personally go above and beyond to make sure they are happy. And, I will remind you, they are not "my" customers. I am just a sub, never to be seen again, but I represent the oil company (and my family has for GENERATIONS). The dollar does not drive me. I love this business.

Friday's Quickie
No, there's nothing wrong with your computer. That Peerless JO3 has a backpitched main riser. Yes, it banged like a prostitute on payday. It also had a rear section that was rotted out at the water line, not that anyone here would be surprised about that. But that can happen to any boiler that has been neglected, and is not a shot against Peerless.
This had to be done in LESS than a full day, so I let the guys pipe this one, giving them basic direction while I went to disassemble the next boiler. Sure, I would have brought the header to the other side of the smokepipe, but all the pitch problems were corrected and the system is totally silent.
Another of my "issues" with these Burnhams, is that I'd like the thermostat wire to be included in the molex for the burner. I hate to ty-wrap 18-2 to the boiler wiring just for the TT. If there were two more contacts in the Molex, everything could be done in THHN and kept neatly inside the Greenfield. I guess I'm the only one that loses sleep over this. And I'm sure other manufacturers that utilize a "plug-in" burner have this same problem, it is just that I do one HECK of a lot of Burnham V8 series boilers.

I cant see behind the smokepipe, but is the piping such that you can put the second riser from the boiler in service another day?
The pitch seems a little severe. I would be concerned that other homeowners looking at this job may draw a negative opinion.

Why?
Requirement is for only one riser.
Pitch is not severe. Just more than minimum.

Burnham install literature has the double asterisk **Second riser optional but recommended for system performance.
Im trying to find a printed exit velocity for the V8 but a second riser would certainly help to cut the velocity.

It looks like a good, basic installation
done to manufacturer's specs. What matters is how well it works, and since it works well and should last a long time I'd call it good.
At least that oil company realizes that boilers must be installed properly, unlike a certain oil company that operates in Baltimore who contacted us! When I told them we don't pipe steam boilers in copper or skimp on pipe sizes, they said all the rest of their subs did (which I believed, I've seen their installs and they aren't pretty) and that they expected us to. And the money they paid their subs wasn't much more than pocket change. So I told them we weren't interested. When I mentioned this to their boiler supplier they just shook their heads....
This is the same oil company I've posted about before, who breaks things on boilers like bolts or nozzle adapters, tells the customer they need a whole new boiler and leaves them without heat and the boiler or burner in pieces on the floor. I routinely see boilers they have allegedly "serviced" recently (tag is there to prove it) that are full of soot. Those guys make the whole heating industry look bad.
So I'm glad you deal with an oil company that cares.

wiring issue...
Al I belive the reason that you don't see 2 more contacts to run inside the greenfield is that the electrical code says that you cannot run low voltage and high voltage inside the same conduit....and you can/will run into EMF issues between 24V and 110 voltage..kpc

I'm not trying to offend you Al, Just pointing out thinks that could be improved upon. When viewing these pictures we can know the politics of the job, just what we see.
