adding a low pressure gauge

Hey all:
I'm adding a low pressure gauge (0-5 psi) to my steam boiler, and I have a question. Can I put a tee on top of a pigtail, and add both the pressuretrol and the gauge on top of the same pigtail? Or would I be better off putting the tee below the pigtail, and then using two separate pigtails?
A second question: If I do use a single pigtail, I would then add some pipe to each side of the tee, and then an elbow joint at the end of the pipe. Can I then screw the gauge and pressuretrol directly into the elbow joints, or should I put a short length of pipe between the elbow and the gauge/ pressuretrol?
Thanks for your help--you all have been a great help to me!
