RE: recent post discussed low temp condensation. My buderus oil fired is controlled with a logamatic w/ OD reset and in the early winter was running for hours at below 120 degrees. Should I be concerned? Should I kick up the low limit to 130 degrees? factory setting was 105. I do not have a chimney liner, just clay.

Correct installation
If it were my system I'd:
1. Makes sure a 6" stainless liner was installed within the chimney
2. A Buderus Logamatic 2107 control should be installed, that can be set up for continuous circulation, and make sure the boiler is above 140 before turning on the pump.
3. In the short term, the aquastat should be set at 140 min. Please be aware that this will not protect the boiler from all condesation issues. Failure to do items 1 or 2 can result in premature boiler failure, NOT covered under the Buderus warranty.

supply temps
It has been my understanding that for a Buderus G115 for example--with logamatic 2107--that the lowest safe supply temp with outdoor reset was 104 degrees. Their cast iron is supposed to withstand it. Liner size for that model is 5" but would vary by model#.
Or were you speaking of your preferences based on your experience?
Thanks,

The logomatic has condensate protection built in. It will turn off the pumps at 104 & allow the boiler to gain temperature in order to stop any condensing at the boiler. It cannot however do anything for an oversized, unlined chimney. The chimney should always be lined when a new boiler gets installed. New boilers are more efficient then the ones they are replacing, thus they don't warm up the big old oversized clay chimneys like the old boilers did. The old boilers kept the chimney hot and the flue gasses didn't condense. The R2107 control may protect the boiler, but the chimney may be raining with condensation (especially if it is an exposed chimney). Line that chimney with a stainless liner. If the boiler is a G115, there are removable baffles that can be taken out & that gives you a higher stack temp...0
