What would make a zone valve bang?

Banging noises are usually caused by thermal expansion of pipes or zone valves.

1) Is the direction of flow through the zone valves correct?

2) A <a href="http://www.caleffi.us/caleffi/en_US/Site/Products/Catalogue/args/sezione/Family030_Hydronic_valves/path/5~519~519-details/include/~applications~catalog~serie.jsp/index.sdo"target="_blank">differential pressure bypass</a> valve is a good idea rather than dead-heading the pump when the last valve is closing.

3) Are all the pipes isolated and free from binding at penetrations?

4) If this is hot water baseboard, could an element be binding in the enclosure?

What would make a zone valve bang?

    Hi everyone,

I need some help. I have a 3 zone system with 2 Calefi and 1 Erie zone valve that has an intermitant banging noise sometimes. The problem is that it never happens when I'm at the house. The system is piped with the pump on the return and the zone valves on the supply right after the boiler. any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tim
