Have a heatloss done. The only way to do it right. Address anything that can be done to improve the home's envelope now; windows, doors, insulation. Here's how sizing by radiation can be wrong:

True on the Fed tax break, but many states have their own tax incentive programs.

  • Boiler Replacement

I'm replacing my Utica 100,000 BTU nat. gas boiler after 20+ years of service in order to take advantage of recent tax credits and hopefully save money by using a more efficient boiler. Most contractors have offered to measure the my baseboards in order to determine the size (btu) of the new boiler. I believe they take linear feet and divide by 506 but I'm not sure. I intend to use slant fin's software to estimate it myself. My question is what would be a good 95% efficient replacement? I would prefer one that can also be used for water storage so I can eliminate my rented water heater. I'm looking at a peerless pinnacle currently because a contractor recommended it. There is not a lot of objective consumer info out there, mostly advertisement. I also notice many boilers only get 92% or less AFUE but the government credit is for 95% and over.
