Boiler

My steam boiler was not relighting last night. So I followed the directions for relighting it. I probably tried 2 or 3 times. It has an automatic igniter on it so you can't light it by hand. This morning I tried relighting it again and It worked. Does anybody know why this may have happened? It is a Burnham Boiler independant series boiler. Any help would be good.
Thank you

Could be:
damper end-switch not "making"
bad ignition module
poor ground
insufficient gas pressure
burner-rack panel improperly installed
dirty pilot region
worn ignitor electrode or HSI device0 -
If that Independence boiler
has a SmartValve gas control system, these have been troublesome. Have your contractor get in touch with the Burnham rep, to order a kit which contains all the necessary parts that will convert it to the current and more-reliable Honeywell S8610 spark-to-pilot system. Once that's done, if it ever breaks down it can be fixed with standard parts.
We just did such a retrofit on a Series 2 hot-water boiler, and it went very smoothly. Burnham really did a good job putting these kits together. They even included a brand-new I&O manual!

Boiler Problem
Thanks for the reply. I also noticed that there was alot of dust and debrie covering the vent at the bottom of the boiler. Could that have been the problem?
There was something else I noticed it was running a bit hot before it went off. The thermostat that controls the boiler would be 68 and my room thermostat would be like 70-72. Now it seems like it is running normal boiler thermostat is like 68 and the room thermostat is more like 66-67. All this may be normal for a steam system not really sure.0 -
boiler
I just had a contrator here to check out what the problem was. Turns out the pigtail was clogged. He said this is not a common thing to happen. Any reason why this happened? I remember the same thing happening about 2-3 years ago. That would be the reason why it has been running a little hot.0 -
typical pigtail...
clogs come from improper boiler water maintanance...have you been blowing down the boiler every wekk to 10 days in the winter? kpc
