Thermostat says heat is on, but it isn't

many gas control systems go into lockout if there is an ignition problem and are reset by doing just what you did. Time to go to the Find a Professional page of this site and call someone to look at it.

Thermostat says heat is on, but it isn't

The last couple of days, I have had an intermittent problem with my furnace. It is a Bryant gas with a Honeywell programmable thermostat. I have it programmed to be 64 at night and during the day when I'm not home, and then 70 whenever I'm awake/home.

The past couple of days I have noticed in the morning that I get up and the house is colder than it should be. Inspection of the thermostat shows that the heat should be on (the little flame icon is lit) and the temp is set for 70, but the actual room temp was 61. I ran down and switched the switch on the side of the furnace off for a few seconds then switched it back on and the furnace came up.

The thermostat is only a couple years old and seems to be working ok, so it appears the problem is the furnace itself.

Can anyone tell me what the problem may be, and how expensive is this gonna be to fix? Any help would be much appreciated.

The little flame icon is just telling you that the stat has sent a signal to the heating system, telling it to turn the heat on. Your furnace isn't obeying that signal, but the thermostat has no way to know that.

So you need to have someone come and look at why your furnace is locking out.

    t-stat

Check to see if "lo batt" is on too. If this stat is battery operated w/24v, you may need new batteries.

    Check this

Check to see if the flue is blocked at the base and the stack switch kicked in to shut off.
