How many cell phones have you gone thru?

Options
I'm still waiting for the Shoe Phone. I had a Treo once that resembled the other great communication device from Get Smart....

A heck of a lot for me

Been spending the day in the office doing some catch up and house cleaning in my closet when i found this box with these old phones in them for seem reason or another just never got tossed. Then I started thinking about the phones that I did toss over the last 15 years of business, from 5 mobile phones that were mounted in the vehicles,to to bag phones, those god awful big hand held cells that were bigger than your cordless at home, and probably sent more microwaves off to your brain then an ovenn on full power would. Then it got me thinking about the waste we generate in this country....... and the money we spent on these things to boot ......How did we survive with out them in the first place? I cant speak from experiance on that matter because they have always been apart of my business.

    I second that,

Took the words right out of my mouth, David- Local women's shelters often take them. The police act as an intermediary because shelter locations are not publicized.

No better place to put them to new use but see if you cannot find the chargers and accessories too.

    I remember the days of..................

Analog service only and $700.00 monthly bills. Had to carry two phones so that when one got close to going over minutes I would just switch phones.

I swore off Nextels till I tried Cingular for 2 years which stunk. Thank God I saved the Nextel phones...just had to reactivate. As Churchill said of Democratic gov't:
"...it's (Nextel) the WORST form of Gov't.....but its better than all the rest." Mad Dog

    Mad Dog...

You mean there is really something worse than Nextel? I've been looking forward to smashing mine but now you tell me there is actually worse out there?

    Me and my Nextels.......

    ....go back a long way!!!!

The service, originally, was sucky at best. As time has moved forward, and they have made (and continue to make) improvements to their infrastructure, the service continues to improve.

If I took a picture of all my old phones, you would just see a pile of parts, and two phones with dried up mud....

th ephones in the picture look like they are still new!

I remember my Dad's first phone, it was in a suitcase and I was not allowed to look at it....but did anyway...

    Around here

The supporters of the local shelter meet a man in an 'open,' well frequented place, just in case they aren't who they say they are.

Several years ago, someone was throwing out 50-60 stuffed animals and I took them. I contacted the battered womans shelter and the lady that runs the shelter met me at a grocery store. I helped load the bags into her car and proceeded to trip over my shoe lace. I fell on her and we went down in a heap. Within 30 seconds, I had 2 deputy sheriff's pointing guns at my head and 2 more backing them up.

The lady stood up and said the 'code word' and all was well, except for my nearly soiled clothing.... Amazing thing was that right before I tripped, she told me the shoe lace was loose. I never saw the deputy's cars before they appeared.

Since then, I've seen the lady around town. Every time,I look at my shoe laces to see if they're tied. If she catches me looking at my shoes, she laughs.

    The flip phones

The flip ones seem like the worst for longevity.

My experience is the opposite of Mad Dog's

My employer gave me a Nextel...coverage was crummy. My Cingular / Motorola ( 5 yr. old) gives great service, even at my house in the backwoods, where Cingular is the only service that can be recieved.Employer now pays my Cingular bill!

    Agreet TOTALLY

    Scarsdale/Hartsdale is the WORST.

There are two places on I95 that have droputs. Unbelievable. The largest, most densly populated area in the country, and we don't have full coverage.

    Unacceptable.

    Next-to-Hells

In our area, Next-time, or Next-to-hell, or N*xt*l is vile. A telecommunications criminal conspiracy masquareding as a phone service. Evil. Just evil.

    cell phones

What a rip off business. Lousy reception here along the immediate coast of Maine and in the western mountains, so I bought a booster set and had it wired in to the truck radio because of my "older age hearing" $600 bucks and 6 months later, away goes the system that supported that phone, so I had to get a new phone, and guess what...the system in the truck didn't work with the new one, so now they want another 600....NO WAY....fool me once........

    Cellular One.....

Ah, the good old days...I complain because my three cell phones are costing me over a hundred bucks a month, and then I clean out my file cabinet and find bills from "Cellular One" and "Bell Atlantic Mobile" for $500 to $600 a month...for service that was spotty at best and non-existent in many places. Did I really spend $6000 a year for phone service? No wonder I'll never be able to retire!

BTW--great site. Only happened on it by accident while searching for info...but I'll be back.

I've had pretty good results with the Nextels over the years. However, when I get up into North Stamford and north Greenwich I start grumbling about the rich people who won't allow cell towers in their neighborhoods.

    I know!!!!!

Isn't it ironic? Everyone wants good reliable cell service, but no one wants a tower anywhere that they can see it! "Not in MY back yard!"

My cousin is a township trustee in a rather upscale suburb of Pittsburgh. He dang near got run out of office when he lobbied for a tower to be placed on some township property. The rental income for the township is about 20 grand a year!!!!!!!!

    Phones

Only 12 phones since 1988. We started with Southwerstern Bell Mobile System(the phone company that did not act like one. Customer service was 24/7 and you got a real person. Try calling ATT now and you get a machine.

The first phone was a transportable unit over fourteen pounds and a full three watts. That thing could get signal most any where you could drag it!

Several Phones later I got a lingo from OneCom(they became Nextel). We have been with since. We have tried others, but signal OR lack of has been the problem.
