bypass valve??

Is your boiler steam or hot water?
Do you have a mixing valve or electronic control of some type?
Steel can be destroyed as well as cast iron with flue gas condensation.

I have a steel boiler with 2 zones of baseboard....The plumber who put in the system piped a bypass valve in. I was under the impression that they were only needed on cast iron boilers?? Is this true and the way its piped it it goes from the supply to the boiler side of the circultor...
if i dont need it, should i just close the valve???

it is a steel..hot water boiler..with domestic coil ( although not using)...so then its better to keep the by pass open to keep the boil;er hotter to prevent the condensation of the flue gas???

    bypass

Is your bypass just a ball valve? That really isn't proper boiler protection. Dd you have any way of monitoring the return temperature when the system is running?

Here is one example of a proper bypass valve.
