    R.

sorry, I don't understand why the baseline figure changed from the CI's 30 to the munchies 18?

Also I did a quick figuring, and came up with about 2% DD less for the munchie compared to the CI. And about 33% less therms for the munchie compared to the CI. This is all inclusive, no baseline take-away.

Also, if you do a percentage calc. for the rise from March to August on both boiler systems, they are about the same.

From March to April thru May, on both systems, though your DD's and therms are dropping, your ratio climbs. This once again leads me to suspect that the "cold" house syndrome, but even more so, the COLD potable water comes into play big time.

Again, if you could get someone to download the Munchie info, I think that you would find that your baseline scenario is off.

Standing pilot. I saw the same change in our previous house (forced air heat) when going from an old furnace to a 90+ furnace.

I doubt it. Water is maybe 12-15 therms/month (the rest is cooking). Even if it goes up in winter, how much higher is it going to go? It's just not a significant thing.

HTP won't let me have the software (and cable, assuming a special cable is required). I'd love to be able to read the data.

    Whoops!

    APRIL! DOH!!!!!

If the chap who installed the boiler for you installed the Vision One, then he should he able to get the the software and cable. I really think that until you get the info from the munchie, you, me and everyone else is just twisting in the wind.

    Just me $.02 worth.

    But,

I have wrestled with a similar situation with one of my customers, and the thought that keeps running through my head is, what about the caloric content of the fuel, and how does this affect the performance of your system. It seems that the old boiler was somewhat oversized, therefore a marked reduction of btu content may not show as readily, as the boiler is going to still be oversized. However with a properly sized modulating boiler, that is running at near to full capacity, would run longer to satisify a heat demand, therefore concivebly consuming more fuel?

    Yup...

... I had the same thought. The gas companies are given wide leeway in terms of what they're allowed to inject into their systems. I remember having to test the use of some of those gases for the water heater I helped develop. Fascinating mixtures, and a huge tangle of pipes, valves, and tanks to get it right.

Industrial users meter by the BTU, not the ccf, for a reason. They know what the gas company is up to and have the scale to justify measuring the caloric content on site.
