I have been a Call Firefighter off and on for 35 years and I was a full time Police Officer for 22 years prior to this business. I have seen numerous houses destroyed by fire that started from either a wood stove or improper handling of ashes.

For the Fire Department that is. I don't know about the rest of you guys who service more rural areas but I have been getting TONS of phone calls about "checking out the old wood burner". It's the ones that just put on some new smoke pipe and light up the old stove without checking its condition or the flue that I worry about. We're back in the 1970's again when our little department averaged about 40 wood stove/furnace related fires a year.0
