steam pipe reduced?

according to the manufacturer's specification. I wouldn't rule anything out until that has been corrected. Use the 'Find a Professional' link on the left. A lot of these guys know how to design near-boiler piping to get the most out of the system (sometimes more than the mfr).

A buddy bought a house with a steam boiler- it short cycles on the LWCO like mad!!!! First thing I noticed is the piping right out of the boiler is necked down from 2-1/2" to 1-1/4" for about 3' and then opens up to 2-1/2" again. Could this tend to make it short cycle? Would this increase the velocity and carry water with the steam???0
