after three or so running feet you will probably need a return.0

            Tube in fin radiators
Thanks, Bob Young, for the info. This tube in fin is a 6 foot baseboard radiator, with a U shaped, one copper pipe system with a return (after a U elbow) coming after an air vent which is at the furthest end away from the valve. Do I meet your " three or so running feet" return suggestion?0

            steel fin tube
what you describe sounds like a used part of a hot water system. usually tube fin for steam is 1 1/4 " or 2 " steel pipe with steel fins. a run of more than 3 feet or so usually requires a return. six running feet i doubt would work without a return0
