outdoor vs. indoor reset

Keep the boiler as cool as possible. Control the boiler and circulators intelligently. Indoor feedback or trv's work great in combination with outdoor reset.

    ODR

Where I live, WIND has a huge effect on how much heat is needed.

Does any Co. make a wind sensor to be used along with ODR?

    Thanks

    estimates of load

    Tim,

The idea of outdoor reset or indoor reset are to come up with estimates of the overall load, then adjust the water temps to be appropriate for that load. So the simple answer is the one that best correlates to house load. So you get the famous "it depends."

I will say that I would doubt the difference would be that great in terms of energy used. At some point, each control strategy reaches a point where the efficiency gains it can contribute become swamped by other issues in the system.

I think the bigger issue of the difference would be in the comfort end. In this, indoor reset will have the edge if you have a room that is both coldest in the house and has good correlation to the overall load. A room that has large swings in local load (outside doors, zero to 8 people in 1 minute...) will be poor choices.
