IS LEAD SOLDER GOOD ?
I WORK INSIDE A PRESSURIZED HOT WATER NUCLEAR REACTOR AND HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH A VARITY OF PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURES
OUR MAINTENANCE MANUALS WILL ALLOW US TO USE LEADED SOLDER ON LOWER PRESSUREIZED HOT WATER SYSTEMS WE SWITCH TO SILVER SOLDER ONCE PRESSURE OR HEAT OR THE COMB OF BOTH GO ABOVE SPEC
WE CANNOT USE LEAD FREE BECAUSE NCR HAS NOT MADE IT QC QUALITY CONTROL TAKES YEARS OF TESTING TO ALLOW IT TO BE USED ON NUCLEAR REACTORS
AROUND THE HOME I CAN SEE NO REASON WHY LEAD OR LEAD FREE CAN BE USED ON HEATING SYSTEMS FOR DRINKING WATER LEAD FREE MIGHT BE A TINY BIT BETTER
I ASKED A FEW PLUMBERS AND ONE HEATING SPEC BOTH AGREE LEADED SOLDER WAS BETTER
THEY ALSO AGREED THAT LEAD FREE SOLDER WILL KEEP THE HOME DOERS FROM TAKING ON THE JOBS WITHOUT THE HIGHER TEMP TOURCH THE HIGHER TEMP SOLDER WILL NOT WORK
TO ANSWEAR THE QUESTION
LEADED SOLDER IS JUST AS GOOD AND IT WILL ADHEAR TO A CLEAR SURFACE BETTER THAN LEAD FREE SOLDER
AT HIGHER TEMPERTUES WERE STEAM BOILERS YOU MIGHT BE BETTER OFF USING LEAD FREE
YOU CAN STILL FIND PLENTY LEADED SOLDER ON THE INTERNET IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE EVEN THE LEAD FRE SOLDER USERS KEEP SOME FOR THE HEAD TO GET AT PLACES
I HOPE THIS INFO WILL HELP ANSWEAR WHICH ONE IS BETTER BUT IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO WHAT YOU ARE WORKING ON0 -
Maybe it's because of all that background noise on the reactor floor that you have developed the habit of shouting.0 -
Taramet Sterling...
is the best solder on the market. (IMHO) There is no need for lead based solder anymore. If you can not solder with Sterling, you need more training or should leave the soldering to somone else.
(Yes...All caps is considered yelling on message boards)0 -
what difference
heck if lead won't hurt nobody I guess a little radiation won't matter niether.0 -
scott
I love that stuff. Sterling is all we use on domestic water. Best Wishes J.Lockard0 -
We use the Wolverine Brass Lead Free solder.
Flows just like Taramet. 1/2 the cost.0 -
I agree with Al. Wolverine runs as smooth as Taramet and at about the same temp.0
