to locate a loctite product that I have used in the past. It comes in a cylinder and looks like dental floss. You wrap it around the threads of a pipe before you join the pipes. I lost mine and went to the supply house only to draw vacuos eyed stares and mumbles of "I dunno" and "never hurd of dat." What is the Loctite number of this product. Thanks WW

I think you want loctite # 55 this is like dental floss and seals great....and can be used in gas applications. You MUST follow the application rate to the very letter or your joints will leak. We have used it for several months now and have had great succsess

Seems like a nice product. I hate to see pipe joint compound all over the threads after a job is finished. That compound is doing nothing to prevent leaks.

We've lately gone back to wick and Rectorseal number 5 for use with the crappy pipe we've been getting.

    Gonna try that Loctite 55

    Thanks

    I had a time

locating some Loctite 55. After 3 supply houses Aireco, ReMichel and Graingers, I struck paydirt at Fergesons who found some in VA. Beach, VA and will UPS some up to me. RE michels would have gotten me some if I bought 24 of them. The last container I bought lasted me 5 years. To buy an individual container it would have cost me 38 dollars. Fergeson is charging me 9 bucks plus shipping. Why is this stuff so hard to find around here??? WW

    Wayne,

I feel your pain. I also get crosseyed looks when asking for this fine product. Buderus used to include it with their indirects, and I've pillaged every tube I could find but the well has run dry.

I did find it at the ISH show as a sample pack, but that 9 meters only lasted a couple jobs.

It DOES work well, but even when used as directed, it leaves what looks like a birds nest at the end of the joint. With just a dab O' Rectorseal on a fingertip run around the bottom, it lays right down and looks nice and clean. Chris

    I'm with you Chris

I got my first roll with a Buderus indirect also. Used it up though. I was seriously considering buying the 24 pack and then sell some on the internet. Fergeson keeps some around. Not much.I like your solution to the birds nest frazzle. I will steal it for my next job. WW
