I'm in New Rochelle. The transport costs that Con Ed adds after the actual gas price eat up any savings and then some.

    savings for deregulated gas/electric?

Curious if anyone in NYC or Westchester, NY has found they reduced gas or electric costs by switching to an ESCO (energy supply companies) from their regular utility. I know that Coops and Condos have saved money--but they use much more than the average homeowner and therefore have more clout. Some years back I looked into it and it didn't seem like I'd save alot. I use about 1400 therms a year of gas and 5719 kwhours.

Thanks Al; con ed is doing a big push now--some of the escos are offering rebates to sign up. But I can't understand how the word wouldn't be out by now that there's no savings. How do they hope to motivate people? Seems like there might be savings if you sign up with a company that's big enough to buy in enough bulk. This has been going on for three or four years now. I guess once people sign up there's no way to measure exactly how much they're saving or not, since they don't provide a parallel bill of what their costs would have been had they stayed with Con Ed. They can always say, 'well prices have gone up' --which they have and will.

I think it's time to do some geothermal research.
