Probe LWCO

I just installed a WM EG-50 steamer and had a small
issue with the probe type lwco. While its steaming and
I slowly drain the boiler it doesn't shut down the boiler
until water it is completely gone from the glass.
I cleaned the probe, skimmed, drained, and refilled
If I shut down the burner and turned it back on the lwco light would come on signaling low water.
I asked my supplier to send me a new (different brand )
LWCO and it does the same thing. The supplier says its foaming, I guess it is, but how can this be safe?
Any input would be appreciated
Rich

    lwco

Rich, I've had this problem before which is why I shy away from "pancake style" boilers as I call them. Use a lot of Weil boilers, but the EG has a very shallow water chest and I've found that the probe can stay wet enough just from the vapor to keep the boiler running. I solved the problem on one EG90 by using a Hydrolevel model 711CF LWCO.This one mounts on the sight glass tower and gets the probes out of the boiler steam chest. It eliminated the problem. Easy to install and service. A little more money but is does the trick.

    probe LWCO

Posted a responce last night but not showing up this AM so I'll try again. I've had this problem with boilers like the EGs. the "pancake design" as I call it, having a very shallow water chamber, can fool a probe with moisture alone. I've used the Hydrolevel 711 LWCO that mounts on the water glass column with very good results. It gets the probes out of the steam chest and into a smaller environment that seems to allow it to respond quicker.

    Al,

Your post shows up 3 times, so, it just goes to once again prove my maxim: Technology Sucks!

    Hydrolevel

    Thanks AL:
I tried to talk the homeowner into an SGO and a Carlin EZgas but wasn't interested(talked about also switching to oilheat). This would have been easier in the long run..
I appreciate the response. I will feel better if that works correctly, I am surprised Weil Mclain hasn't
dealt with this, really could dry fire like this..
    Thanks
    Rich P.
