System failure

My friend has a one pipe steam system. He did some remodeling and when the system was turned back on the 3" main line is hot 3/4 the way down then gets cold with no steam going to the risers. There are no end of main air vents and no connections to break free in the line? It is a very old system with old cast Iron radiators. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ken

Got a welder?
Drill a 1/2" hole on the top of the main about 15" from the very end. Weld a 1/2" coupling to the top of the hole and insert a Gorton # 2 main vent.

It seems that
the "'I have a problem to solve' Ken" and the "'I have the solution' Ken" have merged thanks to superior engineering and anti-schizophrenia medication.
Isn't the Wall a miracle!

I totally missed that one. When I realized it, i almost spewed my morning drink...0 -
I assume this would be a whole lot less work then cutting the main to install an air vent?0
