heater won't shut off

Is just the fan running or is it getting hot? If latter, probably hooked up incorrectly. T-stat's in my opinion are usually never the problem, but that is what the Home owner can get at home depot and still have the same problem..:-)

heater will not shut off.
My upatairs heater will not shut down when heat mode is selected. I instlled a new themostat, with no help. The only way i can shut the unit down is to sellect cool and then go to off. What is my next step in troubleshooting? Could it be the sequencer? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it might be a short in the t-stat wiring. You should call a service tech to check it out.Or if you're qualified, you can do a continuity test on the wiring.0
