outdoor temperature control

Was trying to get some information on an outdoor temperature control unit and how it will affect the boiler water temperature. Will it lower the termperature enough to cause a concern to cause any condonsation in the boiler or chimney pipe? Would appreciate a reply from anyone who can help. I am a new member and am new at all this. Thanks

outdoor temp. control
can I add a outdoor temperature setback conrol to a pennco FSB-4 cast iron boiler without any condinsation problems in the s.s. chimney pipe and if so how far down can I adjust the temb before I will have problems?0 -

Outdoor reset
Hi Doug:
It probably depends upon what fuel you are using.
I'm not familiar with other fuels, but understand that
natural gas exhaust condenses below 135 degrees.
I recommend paying a good hydronic heating contractor
to advise you after seeing your system. Dan's book, Primary
and Secondary Pumping Made Easy, will help you understand
primary/secondary pumping,which allows the water
temperature in your heat emmitters to be lower than the
boiler temperature.

Usually with a conventional boiler you set a "boiler minimum" temperature. Outdoor reset then varies between that value and your maximum water temperature requirement on a "design day".. the day the system was designed for.
So if your max value is close to your boiler minimum, then outdoor reset for the boiler is not very helpful. However it can still be useful for secondary circuits (like radiant heat, etc).
I'm not familiar with your specific boiler though so someone else will have to answer that part of your question.0 -
Like Bob said,
a cast iron boiler needs 140 degree return temp no matter what fuel you use. If you really want to control your loop(s), primary/secondary pumping is the way to do it without a low temp, condensing boiler.0
