Every other day I have to fill the water on the gauge glass on my steam heat system. This is normal?

NOPE
either you are leaking in the boiler or you are leaking in the pipes, return probably, follow it if it is under he floor check it out
fresh water has a lot of oxygen in it, constant replenishing will kill your system - 02=rot
good luck0 -
i once worked with an old guy that told me to replace the guage glass washers everytime you replace the glass, because the washers can get small cracks that let the water (steam? or dissapate?) out , you cant see the water because it seals itself when water gets to it...dont know if its true, but could because the guy was really old...just a thought0
