Copper in two pipe steam

as the copper won't be harmed, its cathodic to the iron boiler..its presence however will turn the boiler into the sacrifical anode unless there is something more anodic in the system..

Saw this on a job recently
There is an 1 1/4 steam supply and 3/4 condensate return done in copper. What do you steam guys think of this? I wish I had pics of it.

You know as well as we...
This is an inferior job.
It's been discussed quite a bit on here. You can probably search for "copper steam" and read why.

Bad practice yes...disaster might be a bit overstated
It's never the preferred material on the steam side, especially the header, but I have seen it out on the mains w/out leaks after 20 years. It depends how much they want to spend to rip it out. You'd be surprised how many "purist" decide to keep it once they get a price to repipe. Mad Dog

Last week saw three steam boiler in copper
Last week I went to a no heat call and found 3 boilers side by side all copper. The owner just laughed at me when I told him that the header and above the water line should be black pipe. He said they've been like this for years with no problems. I noticed a coffee can on top of the last boiler and I asked about that and he said it leaks at the elbow when it runs. Hmmm. Well the oil line was the problem and I fixed the no heat for the other unit. So it was on to the next call. I'll be back there eventually.

copper?
Would it also be bad for the boiler if one radiator's supply runs (approx. 6' from steam main to rad) was copper rather than black pipe. I ask because I have this condition.0 -
