Are you sure the pump is pumping the right direction?

Banging noises in the pipes supplying heating to the house
I recently had to replace the circulating pump on my Burnham hot water gas fired furnance and that required emptying the water from the all the cast Iron radiators and the pipes. After the installation I filled the system and bled the radiators and turned it on. Everything worked fine for a little time and then a nightmare began. I started to hear loud banging noises coming from the basement like someone took a hammer and started hitting it on the furnance or pipe. This continued and I am now really worried and need help as to what steps I need to take to get rid of this banging. I maintain a pressure of about 18 lbs in the system I have emptied the expansion tank as well as a precaution and bled the radiators three times and still the matter is not resolved. Your help will be appreciated so very much.0
