Seminar to Benefit Oil Heat Cares at the home of the Pats!

Have you ever wondered what the mechanical room at a football stadium might look like? How about a stadium-size turf-warming system? This April you will be able to find out. The Oil Heat Cares directors, NAOHSM (National Association) and Taco, Inc. are teaming up to present a Radiant Heating seminar at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots football team, that will benefit the Oil Heat Cares program.

The keynote instructor for the seminar being held Thursday, April 5, 2007, will be radiant heating expert John Barba. John is originally from Harvard, Massachusetts and now lives in Minnesota. John's career in radiant started early working for his father's plumbing and heating business. After his father's retirement he took over management of the business. John has become one of the best known radiant instructors in the industry and has taught thousands of people the fine art and subtle science of radiant heating.

In addition to learning the ins and outs of radiant heating, attendees will have a tour of the stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, that is home to the New England Patriots, three-time Superbowl world champions. The tour will include the players' locker room and, of course, the mechanical room where all the heating happens.

The registration fee is $99.00 for the seminar and tour that will be held 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Registration is available online at www.naohsm.org or by calling 888-552-0900.

Thanks to the support of sponsor Taco, Inc. and John Barba, all proceeds will go to Oil Heat Cares — an excellent fundraiser for this charitable program.

Attendees for this special event will be limited to 150. Early registration is advised. In addition to the seminar and tour, there will be food and beverages served and door prizes given away to attendees. This will be a great way to have fun, learn something and help a good cause at the same time.

Oil Heat Cares was established by NAOHSM to raise funds to assist needy people and organizations with the replacement of their Oilheat appliances. NAOHSM’s chapters and member companies identify people within their neighborhoods that need to replace their heating systems, but cannot afford to. After receiving approval from Oil Heat Cares, they then install the equipment at no cost to the homeowner. In addition to financial contributions, the charity relies on manufacturers in the industry to donate equipment and supplies. Since the labor for installations is donated by NAOHSM member companies, any financial contributions received by the Foundation go directly to purchasing heating equipment. Count me in...Go Pats

I will plan on attending this seminar, John is an awesome guy and it will be good to hook up with him when he is in town, and hook up with you again as well Dan. Gillette stadium is a great place. I am a season ticket holder, and I have had the privalege to tour the whole stadium as well. I kind of always wondered though, if the radiant in the field ever worked, or Kraft was to cheap to run it after he got his first bill(hahahahaha). If the system did work properly, I am convinced that they would not have had to replace the grass with field turf. You should have been mowing grass in december, if they ran the system right, or ran it when they did replace sod so that it would take root and grow when its below freezing out.Just my opinion.......

    I spoke at Gillette

for GasNetworks one frigid December, the year the Pats were going for one of their wins. It was a Thursday and the field crew pulled back the tarp and then started mowing. It was an amazing site. They told us that they start on Thursday morning for Sunday, and that they use something like 200 gallons of paint to put down the lines.

I'm glad you're coming. I spent last evening with one of your bottles of Merlot. About the best I've ever tasted, and I slept very well indeed. Thanks, Steve!

    Stadium...How bought an Arena?

I stumbled across this thread by accident but thought I'd share a few pic's. I'll get more as the job progresses. The job I'm working on is the new arena we are building for the New Jersey Devil's Hockey team in beautiful down town Newark New Jersey. I believe the seating capacity is only 18,000, but still a substantial project worthy of mention. Unfortunately the pic's only really show plumbing work I'm doing but hey, I'm really only a dumb plumber. The work shown is of the 8" inch main, 6"inch meter w/ 8"inch bypass, back-flow preventer and associated piping. The other pic's show the 3 water heaters and some of the 8"inch domestic water 30' up in the air and some of gas piping. The other pic shows the pressure balancing pumps station. The domestic mains are mostly all 8"inch galvanized that must be cut (not rolled) with a lathe to accept the Victaulic coupling system. The weather today was, well....COLD!

Here is a link to the construction going on in real time. http://earthcam.com/clients/newark/index.php

You can control the camera's and see some of the progress being made. Pretty neat.
